It is that time of year! Millions of college kids – and families begin their Spring Break travels, and whether traveling by limousine, air, train or car it is important that you are careful about your internet options! From the safety of your home Wi-Fi is usually not a concern because most homes use encryption and passwords to keep their Wi-Fi secure. We know while you are on your travels you will be using your tablet, phone and computer to access emails, banking information and possibly even to trade stocks. These could be a hackers dream if you are doing these activities on a Wi-Fi network that is not secure!
Here are some tips to help you stay safe and have fun on your vacation.
1) Ensure that the connection you make is SECURE. If you are not being asked for a password – run!
2) Keep unused tablets, computers and phones locked in your hotel room – preferably in the safe if available. Leaving them out can be tempting to hotel staff.
3) Limit your use of Wi-Fi in highly public places like coffee shops and bookstores. Although they may say they are secure, there are too many people looking over your should to ensure your data is safe.
4) The best tip to stay safe – put the technology away! Take a regular camera and leave the hotel without any technology! Take the time to bond with your family and friends and reconnect on a better level!
